The Global Leadership Program (GLP) is a fully funded exchange established through collaboration between the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and the MIT-SUTD Collaboration Office. One of the key goals of the program is to provide an opportunity for SUTD students to interact with peers at MIT. As such, they will participate in projects on campus that will be led by MIT students and/or faculty.

The 10-week program combines leadership training, engineering design challenges, outdoor adventure and classes in the arts. SUTD participants are joined by MIT students selected through an annual application process.

Participant Voices

“The Global Leadership Program was an amazing experience. With the help and support of my teammates, I built an electric, amphibious boat that succeeded on both land and in the water. Along the way, I learned a lot about teamwork, trust, leadership, and Singaporean culture. I formed friendships that will last a lifetime. Plus, I got to experience all the perks of staying in Boston over the summer!”
-Sameena Shaffeeullah (GLP 2016)

“In the first week, thirty strangers and I grew closer through the Leadershape program. In the subsequent weeks, we explored NYC and Boston, cooked many feasts, learned engineering design, and kayaked in Maine. In eight weeks, a team of four SUTD students and I succeeded in designing and building a working electric motor boat. (We all rode in it!) In ten weeks, I got to know a great group of people who inspired me to take on new projects and seek novel experiences. This was an extraordinary way to spend my first summer at MIT.”
-Naunidh Bhalla(GLP 2016)

“Through GLP, I not only gained engineering and design skills, but also an amazing family of friends. After ten weeks of building, learning, cooking, laughing, and just doing life together, I felt like I had found a second home with this vibrant, creative, and crazy group. We might have only spent a summer together, but these friends will be near and dear to my heart forever.”

“Participating in the Global Leadership Program was one of the best decisions that I’ve made since coming to MIT. I Not only did I learn how design an electric boat from scratch (with no prior experience), but I realized how truly integral leadership, communication and team work were to a project. I don’t think I could have asked for a better first summer at MIT!”
